Cornbread - Lee Morgan

If you like Lee Morgan, then this album should be high on your list. The title track starts with a fantastic solo, making use of a great deal of half valve technique.
This album has secured a firm spot on my ipod and probably won’t be leaving anytime soon. I think I’d sooner leave home without my pants than leave home without this record on my ipod.
The recording quality is in what I would call the “good” range. Its not spectacular, like The Great Summit (Armstrong/Ellington) or even Lee Morgan’s The Cooker, but its totally accepable, and doesn’t detract from the quality of the music.
Here’s a sample from the title track:
Lee Morgan is one of my favorite Jazz trumpeters. In addition to his solo career, he also did a stint with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, as well as the Dizzy Gillespie big band. My favorite Art Blakey record would have to be Moanin’, which features Lee Morgan.
Sound Quality: 7/10
