My Trumpet
I recently took up playing the trumpet. I have never played any instrument before so its been quite a fun experience. So far I can play some simple stuff, and I am working towards my next goal of playing with a community band.
I have two trumpets, my first is this King 600 from the 70’s. I got it at a local pawn shop. Its what they call “free blowing” but mostly because it leaks like crazy :-). It plays OK, for my purposes. Its main benefit is that I don’t worry about breaking it, so I can take it anywhere. Its been on vacation with me and I take it to my classes.
My other trumpet is a 1947 Selmer Grands Prix, which I play on the weekends and wipe down with a cloth after every use.
The King has big dent in the number 2 slide and its lost a lot of varnish. I’ve worn off a bit of it myself practicing, I am happy to say. Other than that its in pretty good shape except for the loose-ish slides and some resoldering of the braces. OK, its a hack, but I’ll probably play it until I can tell that I am playing out of tune.
