The Worst Cocktails I have Ever Tasted

I am going to have to make a new category for this one, lest these recipes get mixed in with the great cocktails that make up my usual posts. What follows are a couple cocktails that have achieved the ignominy of the -3 rating. These drinks are so foul that I have had no more than a sip of each of them.

They all have such reasonable looking ingredients that it seems impossible that they could be so uniquely unpalatable. I guess that is the true extent of their insidious nature, your tastebuds are totally unprepared for the liquid horror that is about to wash over them.

The Honey Dew

  • 1 oz. dark rum
  • 1/4 oz. gin
  • 1/4 oz. Italian vermouth
  • 1/4 oz. water
  • juice of lime
  • teaspoon of sugar

stir in glass with crushed ice.

Rating: -3/10

My note on the Honey Dew says “NEVER MAKE THIS AGAIN”. I like honey dew melons, I like all of these ingredients, but just not together. And, no, it tasted nothing like a honey dew melon.

The Rob Roy Cocktail

  • 1 dash of Angostura bitters
  • 1/2 oz Italian vermouth
  • 1/2 oz. Scotch whiskey

shake - strain - pour

Rating: -3/10

The Rob Roy will make you say “Ach ach ach” and then rinse your mouth with any other liquid within reach. What’s even more terrible about this one is that I was out of blended scotch at the time and forfeited a half ounce of perfectly good single malt on this disaster of a mix.
