Wanted: Jazz Audience
Wanted:
Jazz Audience for evenings and weekends. Must be willing to listen and offer applause. No experience necessary, will train the right people.
About us:
The Vancouver Jazz Audience is a small group of people who have been exposed to America’s only art form and have found that they enjoy it. Performance of this art is exacting, difficult to master, and requires performers with a monk like devotion to their craft. The VJA specializes in supporting these performers so that we don’t have to travel to New York every week to get our fix.
Responsibilities:
As a member of the Vancouver Jazz Audience you will be required to assume the following responsibilities:
1. Monitor the following web sites for Jazz performances.
2. Listen to different Jazz styles and find your favorite.
3. Most important, take your friends out to hear live Jazz.
The larger the VJA gets the more venues we will have and the more bands we will be able to support. We must be tireless in our promotion and support. The musicians are certainly tireless in their practice and preparation, but without us, the music will not be performed.
So when someone asks you where you want to go to dinner, don’t say Earl’s, don’t say Cactus Club, say instead, The Cellar, O’doul’s, The Libra Room, Oasis Lounge, Rossini’s, etc. Even if there is no music on at that time, at least you know that your dollar is going the right way and not just buying another Cadillac for Mr. Earl.
More than that, you must seek out bands and go out as often as your constitution allows. Its not going to be easy, but nothing important ever is.
The simple fact is that there are not enough people in Vancouver going out to listen to Jazz, to support the kind of city that I want to live in. That means that I am just going to have to go out that much more and get that many more friends and associates to join me.
