Cocktails – Rating Scale

This is how I rate cocktails. Presented is the new scale with reference to equivalent old scale values.

The new scale is out of 10, however its possible for a drink to score as a zero or negative value, and also, theoretically to score beyond a 10.

The Cocktail Rating Scale:

Score Definition (old scale equivalent)
-3 Undrinkable, never make this again ( X )
-2 Awful, but if you really need a drink, you might be able to choke this back ( check – - – )
-1 Bad, but if you don’t want to waste alcohol you might drink it anyway (check – - )
0 Perhaps possible to salvage with manipulation of ingredients ( check – )
1 Your basic drinkable cocktail, worth making again. ( check )
2 A good cocktail, offering some variety. ( check + )
3 Perched between the 2 and the 4, this is a tasty cocktail. ( check + + )
4 A fine cocktail. ( check + + + )
5 An excellent cocktail, worthy of your guests ( check * )
6 An excellent cocktail, worthy of your good friends ( check * + )
7 A cocktail that will make you new friends ( check * + + )
8 An excellent cocktail, suitable for serving visiting royalty ( check * + + + )
9 Ambrosia of the Gods, worthy of a killer hangover, but not recommended lest you lose the desire to have another ( check * * )
10 Mythical drink, as yet undiscovered.
11+ Indescribable but theoretically possible, like a frictionless surface, or a point mass.
